New Resin Classification Does Not Apply to Magic Line Products

Changes in legislation for cable joints.
With new legislation in place for almost all resin filled cable....
With new legislation in place for almost all resin filled cable joints to advise installers, contractors and the supply chain in general of the risk of cancer associated with these products. It is a prudent time to consider the newer technology that is now available to overcome all of the Health and Safety issues and also give a higher overall performance.
New liquids that will fill normal cable joint moulds that fully meet the EU Health and Safety Directives of COSHH, RoHS, WEEE and REACH and require no protective clothing have been available from G.H.Lucas and Company Limited for the past five years. These Magic Gel and Magic Rubber liquids are already well established in the industry as potting compounds but can be supplied as cable joint kits to substitute the now older and dangerous resin products.
As well as the obvious health and safety benefits, this new technology gives much higher dielectric strength, shorter cross linking times of less than 10 minutes and the ability to cross link in sub-zero temperatures without any exothermic reaction. Waste can be disposed of as “General” waste and not “Hazardous” waste.
Other advantages over resin products include an absence of shelf life, a greater working temperature range of -60 degrees C to as high as +200 degrees C. Low viscosity, so the fluids can permeate the cable cores completely and the ability to remove either the gel or the rubber compounds with ease allowing for simple entry, repair or testing and Refill and of course an ingress protection level that is greater than IP68.
